A message on designer Yana Gorbulsky’s Myspace page reads, “I’m Yana. I make cute clothes!” You’d think that it couldn’t be so simple, but charmingly enough, it is. On November 18th, Q Gallery hosted a runway event for Gorbulsky’s Brooklyn-base line, Supayana. The woodland-themed catwalk simply melded with Supayana’s youthful yet stunningly grown up attire, conjuring the type of magic best described in fairytales.

Gorbulsky heads Supayana (give it a second to sink in) and has been keeping her nimble fingers busy with the line since 2002. After putting her reconstructed t-shirts on eBay, demand for her super wearable tees pushed her to further experiment with completely original designs. The Moscow native now resides in the BK where city life presents a plethora of inspiration. She credits Japanese streetwear and pieces that boast a modern edge but whisper vintage as shaping her perspective the most, and it shows through her pursuit of exotic prints paired with wearable cuts.

But now it’s back to the fairytale. Gigantic autumn-kissed leaves suspended from the ceiling at Q Gallery and a runway adorned with button-top mushrooms created a wonderland so fantastical that even Alice herself would be envious. As the girls sashayed down the path, eager onlookers reveled in Gorbulsky’s captivating range. Her short shorts were more sweet than suggestive whether made into printed cowl-necked jumpsuits, cinched at the waist with a bold belt, or adorned with buttons or trim.  The high-waisted dress was a welcomed surprise in various incarnations including a shimmery burgundy cocktail number. A vision of sweet and savory followed with one of Gorbulksy’s signature styles, a short-sleeved top with scooped neckline and lacy trim paired with a ruffled white mini. If cuteness could kill…

You can purchase one-of-a-kind gems from the Supayana line on eBay in addition to select boutiques in the New York, Philadelphia, and Portland area.  Check out www.supayana.com for details.
