Thursday Is The New Saturday Drink. Dance. Fuck. Repeat. The promoters and creative minds behind the new Club at Firestone believe your late nights should be that simple. Hoping to remedy the staling Thursday night in Downtown Orlando, The Club at Firestone unveiled its new indie-drenched "Saturday" at The Loft on August 3rd and KillerPOP was there to witness what hopes to be the new Thursday night alternative. "Saturday" promises a no-holds-barge dance party that returns every Thursday night. If you're afraid of a little irony, perhaps you're not partying hard enough. Often described as historic and diverse, Club Firestone has a reputation that precedes it. Various management swaps and shaky genre changes over the last thirteen years have rendered Club Firestone all but forgotten. However, Development Manager Mike Fienberg recognized Orlando's need for a large capacity, multi-purpose venue and haven for the indie/dance scene. He enlisted promoter Paul Geller, famed for his work with CRUSH at BackBooth and the Assembly Art Troop, along with Creative Director Dustin Orlando (formerly Dustin Miami), to revive the joint with cheap drinks (2-4-1 drinks and $3 imports), a festive new look, and a slew of musical acts too radical for the average downtown digs. Inside and out, Club Firestone received a major face-lift?one priced at around $500,000 to be exact. With that much scratch being dropped, it's no wonder that the once eyesore is now a palatial party paradise. Festooned with orbed glass lighting, an outdoor Astroturf garden is the first area to greet revelers from the street. Inside on the main floor, an arena-style kaleidoscope of lights flood the capacious interior, creating an ethereal mood. The oceanic dance floor captivates upon entrance, only losing command to two grand bars on either end. Live bands, including Miami band Modernage, performed atop the sprawling stage, allowing the dance club to effortlessly morph into full-on venue (the stage will service Diplo on August 17th). The main floor connects to a smaller dance room where an additional DJ offered a different selection of beats. Up a flight of narrow stairs, patrons are whisked into the nightclub?s crowning upstairs hideaway. Formally The Loft, the room shines in neon green and white glory for the Saturday indie-laced party where the VHS or Beta deejays spun a convincing set behind an immaculate DJ booth. The Loft includes yet another bar area, sitting area (as if you'd be sitting), and dance floor of its own. Revelers can even indulge their voyeuristic lusts via the glass windows that wrap around The Loft to reveal the main floor below. With debauchery in mind, Club Firestone's Saturday at the Loft hopes to evoke the unrestrained rock n roll clubs of the past by turning up the volume and making us sweat right now. The cover for Saturday Thursdays is $5 regularly ($10 when there?s a national act performing, but if you're on the guest list you'll only have to drop 5). Thursday nights have returned, baby. Don't call it a comeback. Story by Brittany Middleton
