"Where all the white people at?" There was no need for such a question last Thursday as kP and Orlando's dance scene awaited the arrival of B-More's hottest export since Spank Ro, DJ Tittsworth. Like always, we were greeted with DJ Kittybat in the main room, providing his usual excellent set to pump up the crowd for the big names. As Titts approached the tables, the kids filled in the gaps and prepared for a night of nonstop dancing. Titts jumped on the tables and spent the rest of the night right there. Like the Rub, he barely budged or spoke the entire night. He kept the dancing steady with the usual favorites and threw in some themes when he took "Jump" by Kris Kross and segued to "Jump Around" by House of Pain, and then took Boyz II Men into "Boys and Girls" by blur. The set was fun and above average for a DJ, but the problem was that Tittsworth didn't live up to the hype. Most of this was due to the fact that his recorded mixes display diversity, unique shifts, and multiple mashes, while the live show was little more than transitioning from one track to the next. And unlike DJ Funk and Girl Talk who expanded upon their mixes by throwing in brand new jams, Titts stuck to tried and true club tracks. As the set went on, things got worse as Titts white washed the whole place with this set: "Ice, Ice Baby" to "Sweet Child Of Mine" to "Rock the Casbah" to "Roxanne" to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to "New Year's Day." That's about all we could take. The night wasn't awful and neither was Tittsworth, but on record, the man is unstoppable. While live, he needs to be stopped. Ok, that's more for just that last group of songs. Overall, fun show, but we expected more. |
