Time To Start Wasting Your Allowance Toys Again
Toys are cool. One of the things that kind of bummed me out about growing up was the fact that I was going to have to stop buying them at some point if I ever wanted to have a steady girlfriend, so some time after I finished collecting the entire Lego Exploriens set I hung up the habit and traded it in for collecting music. Luckily, the fine art world has finally come up with an excuse for people like you and I to waste our hard-earned money on brightly colored hunks of vinyl: designer toys. Sold at hip websites such as myplasticheart.com, urbanvinyl.com and karmaloop.com, these physical manifestations of coolness can also be purchased in Orlando’s own backyard at the Uberbot store in Winter Park. And one of the most popular designer toy lines, Kid Robot’s “Dunny” line, is releasing its new LA Series at this store on February 2nd. It’s gonna be a party. So when should you show up? Why, February 2nd between 7-9pm. Not only can you avoid pesky shipping and handling fees, not to mention the agony of waiting for your package to arrive, but this way you can hang out with a bunch of likeminded toy freaks and even trade if the box you pick doesn’t happen to contain your favorite Dunny design. Each Dunny comes packaged mysteriously to add to the fun and collectivity of the whole ordeal, so buying at the party is definitely a good way to secure your investment (I wanted Mothman, damnit!). In short: get the hell over to Uberbot. This store is cool, and even when there’s not a party going on you’ll find a million ways to blow your Subway paycheck (if not the toys, then the comics, anime, Japanese cinema and hangable art will get you). Just tell them killerPOP sent you. copy by Jack Cusumano
