DJ Delmar Gives You Something To Do On Tuesday Night
Q: what made you get into the dj business? A: Surprisingly, I think my interest for djing was first sparked from my love for dancing. I'm sure most people are aware of Revolver and/or Poplife in Miami's art district. They're the Ibar of Miami; and them some. After moving to Orlando dancing was not as enjoyable because the clubs, rather djs, were lacking in their selection with regards to their set list (at least, compared to South FLA). After a year of bitching about how crappy and over played the music was I decided why not take action and start djing myself? Q: who are your influences? A: I'm not sure I have specific djs as influences, but rather other dance nights. Again, Revolver in Miami has a huge following, as well as Misshapes in New York. It's dance nights like these that pull a crowd of 600- 800 people push me to become a more rounded and creative dj. Q: what’s the hottest thing going on in music right now? A: Hmm, I'd have to say the production of new music, and the production/creativity of remixes be created. Indie, Electro, or what have you will always sound similar to the dance floor hit released the previous month. What’s separating bands like Hot Hot Heat or The Cribs compared to Tokyo Sex Destruction is how well they're produced, the cleanliness of their sound. The same can be said for remixes, but their downfall is when djs become dependant on them; then they become just as stale as everything else. Q: what do you think separates you from the other djs around here? A: I don't think I'm the king of djs by any measure, but I'm a dancing fool above all else, and this allows me to play music I'd like to dance to (this is assuming that I have good taste in music). With this being said, when I dj I play from all genres to keep the dancing going. Q: we all know you do footloose at backbooth on Wednesday’s nights: what's the deal with your new Tuesday night parties at southern nights, and why should we go? A: The deal with Tuesdays is that it's an abfab dance party! We're (Dj Smilin Dan from Ibar and I) calling it 2 Fer' Tuesdays! 2 $ beers, 2 $ drinks specials, and 2 djs playing the best of EVERYTHING all night. This includes back-to-back sets of everyone’s favorite artists. It's free for 21+ and 3 $ for under age. People should go because Southern solves all the problems that patrons run into everywhere else. We have 3 bars, so no waiting for drinks, ample sitting space (inside southern itself, outside seating, and a lounge attached to southern) so no unnecessary standing, and lastly it's clean. Q: who shot biggie? A: I'd have to say "The King". Elvis is a jealous mutha. Q: what’s your favorite beer? A: Hot Shot, dark ale from England and Irish car bombs. copy by Jack Cusumano |
